Join Fleet Feet Knoxville Racing at one of the many races we sponsor or feature statewide! This May, we went to the Race 13.1 Knoxville, the Heart & Sole 5k, IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga, and the Highland Races Half Marathon & 5k.
Knoxville, TN -- May 1, 2016 -- For the 2nd year in a row, Fleet Feet Sports Knoxville once again partnered with Race 13.1 for their Knoxville race. This year, we sponsored the final water stop of the race; with just one mile left to go we provided much needed encouragement for runners to finish the race. Our friends Amanda Thomas and Eddie Ridenour provided the entertainment, serenading the runners with the sounds of Tennessee bluegrass. Fleet Feet Knoxville staff and training groups alike participated in this race, including Jason McLeod, Fleet Feet staffer and SpeedPlay participant, who placed first overall in the half marathon. The No Boundaries I and II training groups gave it their all, after training for weeks in preparation.
Heart and Sole 5k
Knoxville, TN -- May 14, 2016 -- Fleet Feet Knoxville training partnered with the local non-profit organization A Hand Up For Women (AHUFW) to bring a free walking program to volunteers and participants of the organization. It is the firm belief of Fleet Feet Sports that physical fitness and exercise is an important part of a person's overall well-being, and so the partnership with AHUFW was born. The program concluded with the Heart and Sole 5k at Sacred Heart Cathedral School as the "graduation race." The AHUFW training program was joined by their coaches Anne Mathiak and Cheryl Hadian, as well as Fleet Feet Knoxville runners Pam Moore and Amparo Atencio. Pam had this to say about this year's race, "Running the Heart and Sole 5k is a real memorable race for me! I ran it about four years ago, when finished it about 5 feet In front of the police car that makes sure the course is clear. Every year I meet nice men and women and young mothers with children in a stroller that kick butt running up that last hill to the finish line! This was the best year yet!"
Knoxville, TN -- May 22, 2016 -- Jason McLeod --The Scot Trot 5k last weekend was a small family friendly race around the Maryville College campus. While the course had a couple out and back sections, the campus was a great course location and the weather was absolutely beautiful. There was a great downhill finishing stretch where you could cheer on fellow racers, and they had some fun medals for all finishers as well as some great post-race refreshments. Also with the Scottish Festival happening right after, you could hang out and enjoy entertainment all afternoon.
Chattanooga, TN -- May 1, 2016 -- From Fleet Feet triathlete Beth Miller, "Chattanooga Ironman 70.3 was surreal both for what the city means to me and how much I've changed since I lived here. I finished in 7:10, 14 minutes faster than my Raleigh 70.3. I could not do any of these things without my Fleet Feet Knoxville teammates and my coaches Shahin and Cheryl. An extra special thanks to my teammates MaryJane, Bill, Pam, Ken, Shameka, Kasey, and Henry and Becky, who made awesome signs for us and came to the race for no other reason than to support us. And the biggest thank you of all to my amazing husband and sherpa, Robert, who does so much extra to take care of me during training season, encourages me endlessly and makes sure I collect all my crap at the end of the race."
