Fleet Feet Sports Knoxville Newsletter
January 2008
Dear *****,

You know the fairy tale story of the prince, the maid, and the slipper that changed their future. In our story, it is not quite as dramatic with pumpkins and the stroke of midnight. But the change is there. We see folks everyday that want a better fit and it usually starts with a shoe.

Cheryl and I are so grateful for our new Knoxville community and the Fleet Feet family we are building. Look through our newsletter for glimpses into our daily experiences. From images of wonderful places to run/walk, to the people we meet every day, to the passionate and caring staff we have. Our business is built on service and excellence. Expect the best, we won't give you less.

Train Smart and Live Well,

- Shahin

    At the Races
We love to share stories from our Fleet Fleet family, here are are a few...

From Helen Harb and her daughter Amira:
We came! We ran! We conquered! On Sunday, Nov 4, I ran the New York Marathon! My daughter and I ran it together. We didn't break any records. That wasn't my goal. However, I placed 977 out of 3,900+ people in my age range. My goal was to finish and I did! I can't tell you how wonderful it felt to cross the finish line with my daughter. Last year she ran the marathon 2 hours faster than this year. She held herself back to cross the finish line with her mom. The experience was amazing. We both cried when we crossed the finish line.

The two pairs of Brooks shoes I purchased from Fleet Feet were instrumental in my training and running the marathon. Special thanks to your staff for fitting me with the right running shoes.

    From Rocket City Marathon:
Several folks from our group runs ventured to Huntsville and raced the Rocket City marathon ... Rebecca & Jonathan Adcock, Robin Auerbach, Alan Gassel (not pictured), Wayne Lambert, Sharon Rivers, Jose Salas (not pictured), and Scott West.  All reported the warm weather definitely affected their run, but the camaraderie of training and racing together helped everyone to persevere. Congratulations!

Go Go Girls - They've got the FEET
A group of young ladies in the northeast of the K-town have banded together and formed a running/walking/active team.

       Their name: Go Go Girls
Their motto: We've got the Feet
       Their mission: Run a half-marathon

The team's name highlights their desire to go and keep on going. Bravo to these band of brave and dedicated ladies. Fleet Feet Sports is committed to help them GO. First was a presentation on proper footwear and bra fitting. Next support in training. Finally a fashion show. After all, the right outfit must be worn to match a name as bold as the Go Go Girls.

The Go Go Girls meet every other Saturday in front of Norris middle school.  Currently there are close to 45 ladies with varying fitness levels and one thing in common ... the desire to be active and have fun while doing it.  If you are interested in joining one of their group runs email them at gogogirlstn@yahoogroups.com.

Thirty minutes later, the attacker's symptoms are disappearing with no permanent after-effect. Pepper spray works on animals, including dogs.

Keep your New Year Resolutions on Track

Did you know that one of the most popular New Year's resolutions is to begin a regular exercise program?  If so, you must ask yourself, "How will this year be different?"

    Set yourself up for success
Some people will struggle to keep there resolution no matter what they try themselves. There is nothing wrong with getting outside help. Maybe some of the tips below will resonate with you and help you achieve your resolutions:
  • Set goals that are measurable and realistic. If you struggle with the goal, take a look at your goal and what you are doing. Maybe you need to tweak something in your regiment. Just don't give up, it takes time to reach your goals.
  • Come up with a game plan. Figure out a healthy eating routine and an enjoyable exercise routine.
  • Tell friends and family about your resolution and goals. This way they will be able to encourage you and compliment you when things are going good. They will also be the ones who get on your butt if you're are slacking or complaining.
  • Write your goal(s) down and post it somewhere that you will see it everyday. This will just be a memory refresher and help keep you motivated.
  • Get a workout partner. Find a friend or family member who is going to do this with you. This gives both of you the ability to push each other. When one of you is slacking the other is there to pick you up and vice versa. There is also the constant encouragement factor.
  • Hire a personal trainer. Personal trainers help you stay focused and motivated. They give you a reason to go to the gym because you can't miss the appointment. Why? You do not want to waste your money.
  • Reward yourself. If you are reaching goals and being disciplined, have one treat after dinner. Buy yourself that coat you wanted. Keep yourself happy.
  • Carry a workout bag and your packed lunch.
  • Keep a food and fitness journal.
  • Change your workouts every 6-8 weeks.
  • Check your progress once a week to every two weeks. DO NOT do it every day. Monitor your progress and depending on how you are doing, if you need to change something, do it.

Remember life is short, but it does not have to be any shorter by not taking care of yourself. Eating right and exercising are a huge part of your life. Do not neglect your body, make a lifestyle change and stick to it. Just think the healthier you keep yourself the more resolutions you get to make. Hopefully, you won't have to make anymore fitness ones.
