We have paired up with great vendors and community partners to bring you many opportunities to get active and stay active. Just watch out for us as we finish this year and start anew in January. The words of a friend ring in my ears as I set my sight on training new walkers, runners, and triathletes in 2008:
"Words cannot express my appreciation of your inspiring coaching! I would have never dreamed of completing a triathlon. Thanks for pushing me with your constant encouragement!"
When we opened our doors on Feb 15, we made a promise to provide you with the complete FIT experience. We strive to keep our promise. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your life.

Baptist Turkey Trot 5K run & 1 mile walk
Congratulations to all that finished the Baptist Turkey Trot on Nov 17. Race results can be found here and race pictures here.
Thanks to New Balance for providing 4 free pairs of shoes auctioned at the race, helping to raise money for a worthy cause. Complete FIT packages including shoes, inserts, and socks seemed to have been a great success at the silent auction. We would also like to thank those who participated in the 4 week training program for the race. You saw them on race day proudly wearing a black long sleeve New Balance LightneningDry tops logoed with "Trained By Fleet Feet Sports". Everyone who participated had a great time at the event. Most notable from the group are Collin Greaser and Anna Hadian who went on to finish their first 5K ever and made their parents proud.
Ironman Florida 2007
Congratulations to all who raced Ironman Florida 2007 in Panama City Beach. Especially Deb Traccarella with her first ironman finish and Charles Kaelin our TriVols connection. Training and racing an Ironman is a tremendous feat and you can read about it in Deb's story, click here. Deb is pictured alongside Shahin seconds before starting her second half marathon .... camaraderie at its finest. You may not yet be ready for an event of this magnitude but you can certainly build up to it by joining some of our other training programs such as the Long Distance 101 or the Triathlon 101 that will be happening in early spring 08. Components of Fitness
Unfortunately competitive sport operates at such a high level nowadays that you can't turn in a top performance simply by competing regularly, and supplementing this through training that relies on doing more of the same basic activity. No matter how much more of the same you try to do! Runners need to do more than just run, cyclists need to do more than simply ride their bikes for longer distances, swimmers need to train outside of the pool.
Address any imbalances in your current training program, and target the performances you've always known you're capable of. Break down your 'fitness' into each one of these constituent parts:
Strength - the extent to which muscles can exert force by contracting against resistance (holding or restraining an object or person)Power - the ability to exert maximum muscular contraction instantly in an explosive burst of movements (jumping or sprint starting)Agility - the ability to perform a series of explosive power movements in rapid succession in opposing directions (zigzag running or cutting movements)Balance - the ability to control the body's position, either stationary (eg a handstand) or while moving (eg a gymnastics routine)Flexibility - the ability to achieve an extended range of motion without being impeded by excess tissue, ie fat or muscle (Executing a leg split)Local Muscle Endurance - a single muscle's ability to perform sustained work (eg rowing or cycling) Cardiovascular Endurance - the heart's ability to deliver blood to working muscles and their ability to use it (eg running long distances)Strength Endurance - a muscle's ability to perform a maximum contraction time after time (continuous explosive rebounding through an entire basketball game)Co-ordination - the ability to integrate the above listed components so that effective movements are achieved
Then train each aspect of fitness in turn, so you can make sure you have all the speed, power, flexibility, endurance, co-ordination, and more, that you need to excel at your chosen sport.

Meet Our Staff
|
We think highly of our staff. Occasionally, we will feature our staff so you can get to know them and see what we appreciate them so much. The newest arrival is Ariane Andreaco who came to us after the Blount 10K race. Here is what she has to say about herself.
Hi, I'm Ariane! I'm currently a senior at UT, where I'm majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I started running four years ago to relieve stress and immediately gravitated towards long distance running: it's amazing how long you can run when you think of all the obligations and deadlines waiting for you when you return! I've since run two marathons and am looking forward to many more. I love long runs through Ijams Nature Center or the North Boundary Trail in Oak Ridge, but have just as much fun "racing".... although I'll admit I'm usually more focused on chatting with other runners, the free Tshirt, or post-race bagels than I am on breaking the tape! When I'm not running or buried under lab manuals, I'm probably reading, eating, or getting the hang of things at Fleet Feet Sports.
